Review of Mary Shelley (2017) by Anthony D — 22 Jul 2018
It can't get off the runway. It just ambles along at one pace, never really grasping the high notes in performance or story. It's slightly bewildering as well because it isn't bad, it's just dignified, tasteful and dead.
The final scenes are by far the worst, contrived and written to placate a modern audience. There are no bad performances but there is one outstanding one. Bel Powley as Mary's stepsister, Claire, is quietly sensational.
