Review of Marebito (2004) by Joseph S — 20 Jul 2007
Anybody who's familiar with Asian horror movies just has to expect lots of gore and splatter aside from the overall creepiness. I could say it had its moments. Nothing like good old-fashioned make up effects to scare the living daylights out of you.
A man fascinated by suicide finds a beautiful woman in chains underneath the subway system while investigating a recent "jump". Eventually, he falls in love with her and realizes that he must satisfy her vampiric urges to keep her alive.
Not long after, he himself goes mad when he loses everything to his carnal desires. It's a very surreal plot, all too surreal in fact, that it dragged on. Otherwise, this movie is an acquired taste and is not for the faint of heart.
