Review of Mandy (2018) by Natesacharlatan — 09 Oct 2018
Mandy is a loving homage to a classic fantasy metal album; its not always going to be at 11, and they may seem a little silly on stage, but what a **** show it is.
Panos Cosmatos brings his signature love for sticking to hard color pallet that was also at the heart of his first film, Beyond the Black Rainbow, as well as his signature story telling blending time and place.
With a revenge film being this overly stylized, it risks falling into a Nicolas Winding Refn sized hole, becoming of little interest to many audience goers; What Mandy does right to keep itself out of this categorization is not take itself so seriously. Half way through the story, it reminds you of that by having a goblin puking mac & cheese on kids who are absolutely loving in.
Simply, it's a masterpiece of modern B-movie horror!
The Horror Scares Me Podcast Highly Recommends this Film.
