Review of Mandy (2018) by Planetvibz — 15 Sep 2018
An extraordinary, hallucinogenic revenge film. Set in 1983, Reagan is on radio rallying for the need to make America great again and warning of the rise of the evil empire. The film opens with bucolic scenes of Red (Cage) and Mandy (Riseborough) enrapt in their own isolated Shadow Mountains paradise until set upon by an evil cult led by an narcissistic psychopath (Roach).
Cage is awakened (with a cheeky nod to the 80s sword & sorcery film genre) to seek bloody vengeance. Whether his trip is a political allegory of 2018 America or something mind alteringly different, who knows, but it's a trip worth taking.
