Leave it to the Koreans to deftly blend together disparate elements into a film that works very well. Your typical former Marine turned bad-ass, nearly indestructible cop takes on some gangsters, all while struggling with his gender identity.
The graphic fight sequences are contrasted by some compassionate and nuanced examinations of masculinity and transgenderism in Korean; and it works well.
