Review of Mahler (1974) by Walter X — 28 Nov 2007
What can I say? A great movie on Mahler, not a very straightforward biography like what most people might expect. Instead, Russell does makes it into an art film, we see sudden flashbacks, dreams, visions... and it was those things that kept the movie interesting.
Robert Powell came off as a convincing Mahler, and Hale fulfilled her role adequately. The entire movie is richly score with Mahler's music, Haitink and Concertgebouw are essential to the success of this movie.
