Review of Mackenna's Gold (1969) by Victor L — 23 Jan 2007
:fresh: [b]Not a great movie, but I think it is a good guilty pleasure. The film looks cheap and foolish in some scenes and dialogs but it has a very strong cast that is the film's main strenght. Gregory Peck was convincing but I've seen better films when he looked awesome, Omar Sharif is a disgrace trying to act like a mexican bandido, the two women are to throw them away both and forget they exist, Eli Wallach is good as usual but he always act the same (No doubt that Hollywood loves to waste its talented actors), Edward G.
Robinson acts a good part but his character is too short and finally, Telly Zavalas is perhaps the most convincing performance of the film. The final earthquake was a mess and was totally unreal. Mackenna's Gold is a minor western with a great cast but far to be a classic as Columbia announces in the DVD box.
