Review of Macaroni (1985) by Brian V — 31 Dec 2005
A great funny movie with Jack Lemmon and Marcello Mastroinni. Jack and Marcello play two World War II buddies reunited in modern day Naples, but this isn't a simple reunion. It seems that Antonio (Mastroianni) has been sending his sister forged letters from Robert (Lemmon) since the war ended. Originally, it was his way of helping his sister forget the American who left her behind. But after a while, Antonio got into it and kept it up for forty years. Now it's up to Robert, a jaded ulcer-ridden American executive, to try to live up up to the legend Antonio has created.
This movie brought back memories of when I was a young sailor in stationed for two and a half years in Naples. That's not the reason that I rate it highly, but it is the reason that I watched it in the first place. You won't be disappointed if you watch this one!
