Review of Louis C.K.: Shameless (2007) by Tim S — 03 Apr 2012
Being that this is basically Louis C.K.'s first comedy special purely on his own, I have to give Shameless a bit of credit and let some things slide. I have to let it slide that it's pretty-much bland stylistically, and the focus is mostly on just the material.
Now if I hadn't seen his other specials first, I wouldn't make that call. Especially with Chewed-Up, which definitely has some visual flair to it. Shameless doesn't, but that's ok. Being that this is his first time out, I'll let it go.
The material is mostly like his follow-up special. It's family-oriented yet outlandish at the same time, but funny as hell. Louis doesn't hold back, as usual, but never loses his audience for a second.
He's so damned appealing and likeable that you can't take anything he says to heart, and that's part of where his strength as a performer comes from. I look forward to future viewings of this, his other specials, and other specials to come.
