The story of the fleeting friendship between two Americans, a middle aged actor and a younger married woman set in the overwhelming Tokio. Poetic and enchanting from start to finish with its infectuous pace and a perfectly balanced mixture of humour and psychological depth, Lost in Translation is the impressive and mature work of Sofia Coppola which, shortly after its release, already felt like a classic.

It's not just the film's tenderness but also its nostalgic romanticism which is suggestively completed by the two lead character's alienation in a strange and different world. These two characters are played superbly by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.
