Review of Long Weekend (1979) by Al M — 20 Mar 2010
One of the great Australian horror films--a taut piece of ecological and psychological horror that follows a couple as they go on a long weekend vaction to a remote Australian beach. As the weekend progresses, the couple's relationship reveals itself to be badly broken and disentegrating fast, and the film depicts the couple performing various crimes against nature.
Eventually, nature begins to strike back and the horrific external events parallel the equally dark and twisted interior psychological scars of the couple that are revealed over the course of the film.
An intelligent, methodical, and disturbing piece of horror cinema that should be much better known in the States. Of course, it has recently received a remake as Nature's Grave.
