Review of Loev (2016) by Kristin C — 23 Jun 2017
Spoilers:
Call me not understanding, but I loved the film all the way up to rape scene. The acting and writing and build up were superb in my mind. Loved all the various beautiful shots of India too. All the way up to that 20 second scene. Then, every fiber of me hated the American business man. My response was visceral. I think my response to this would be the same whether it be a man or a woman. I felt at that moment his friend became an abuse victim and the rest of Sahil's responses were because he was in shock. It is a violation. At that point the entire dynamic of the film changed for me and I wanted all interactions between the two of them to end. I felt at that exact moment the business man Jai deserved no relationships in his life. And luckily the writers seem to agree. The only good part of that outcome. Jeez. I could not rate it because of that.
