Review of Little Voice (1998) by Darryl C — 12 Sep 2007
The plot of this film owes too much to films like 'a patch of blue' and 'rebecca' but that is part of its charm. plus horrocks' uncanny impersonations of dietrich, monroe, judy garland and shirley bassey are as magnificent as her standout acting in the role of laura hoff.
blethyn and mcgregor are equally invested in their roles as laura's slatternly mum and shy bird-loving suitor. but michael caine is simply not easy! he rocks the house as the sleazy agent ray say because he never misses a chance to show you the fragile, vulnerable sides of this sharp talking would be mover-shaker.
also standing out are jim broadbent and annette badland. fabulous little heart-warmer of a film!
