Review of Little Manhattan (2005) by Elizabeth O — 15 Aug 2007
The best children's romantic comedy I've ever seen, and one of the only ones I've ever seen. Josh Hutcherson carries this film as the narrating 10 year old Gabe as he experiences his first crush, his first dates, his first kiss, and his first heartbreak.
Gabe meets Rosemary in karate class and, after being partnered with her during class, he notices her. Bradley Whitford co-stars as Gabe's father, full of advice and support. A good family film that I would definitely want my little boy to see if I had one.
But I think adults enjoy it, too. There are eternal truths here. I'm 29 and this movie is one of my favorites.
