Review of Léolo (1992) by Jesse F — 08 Jun 2007
This here's a forgotten gem of the Canadian film canon, about a young boy who tries to distance himself from his surroundings in a poor Montreal neighbourhood by imagining himself the son of a Sicilian.
A grotesque film, but still a pretty one, and a great example of what Canadian filmmakers are experts at - coming of age dramas. And there may be nothing like it released in Canada ever again after the untimely death of its director, shortly after its release.
