Review of Léolo (1992) by Kris K — 30 Nov 2008
"Moi, parce que je reve, moi, je ne suis pas." What a mind-blowing experience this is: the unconventional narrative structure; the innovative use of camera angles, mise-en-scene, and pacing; the way Lauzon presents increasingly-bizarre and rather difficult subjects, scenes, and fantasies without judgement (almost making them seem "normal"); and the beautiful images that stay in one's mind long after this visually-stunning film has ended.
It is such a shame that Lauzon died so tragically and so young: his cinematic vision was unique, brilliant, passionate, and, above all, human.
