A tremendous loss to world cinema occurred on August 10, 1997, when a plane crash took the life of French-Canadian director Jean-Claude Lauzon. Before his death, Lauzon was able to create an indisputable masterpiece in his second feature, Leolo, which is about the life of an imaginative boy growing up in a hardscrabble section of Montreal.
