Review of Late Spring (2014) by Lynda M — 09 Dec 2009
It could be Tokyo Story, Early Spring, Late Autumn Early or Late Summer-it's Ozu-so the stories are more or less the sameThey are shot in the same way, they all have the divine Setsuko Hara as daughter, wife or mother, it feels initially like watching paint dry, but gradually all the films get to you and end with a subtle, but cathartic, emotional wallop.
This isn't difficult boring World Cinema, it is immensely simple and straightforward. It's also deeply moving and affecting, I find each film really lives with you you feel quieter, cleansed, and you really want to bow.
To everyone you meet!
You can't ever really explain the loveliness of Ozu films-they are designed to be beyond measure and beyond words- the miracle is-they are!
