Review of Lady Vengeance (2005) by Val K — 15 Jan 2009
My favourite out of the trilogy. Not as bizarre as Oldboy, and not as complex as Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, this is rather straight forward, yet still complex enough for a Korean movie (I find their story lines to be intricate and mysterious).
What really drives this movie is the fact that all of the vengeance that is taken is completely deserved, whereas in the other two movies the characters not so black and white. That makes Lady Vengeance an incredibly efficient film, and probably the best introduction to modern Korean cinema for Western viewers.
