Review of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) by Scott M — 27 Aug 2010
One of the single best comedy scripts ever written. Shane Black has single-handedly put the finishing touch on an entire genre that he helped create with Lethal Weapon. Here he has made a movie for what I can only assume is a fraction of the budget for Lethal Weapon that is better than LW in every possible way.
This movie, not Iron Man, is really what's responsible for the career resurrection of Robert Downey, Jr., and Val Kilmer/Michelle Monaghan are fantastic and hilarious as well. This movie manages to be a rare mix of subverting a genre while following all the rules the genre would follow.
On top of just being a great story with excellent performances (especially for a movie like this), the movie is just one of the most laugh-out-loud comedies I've ever seen.
