Review of Khartoum (1966) by James B — 04 Jun 2007
A good historical movie. Olivier plays the Mahdi, a self-proclaimed Islamic messiah on a crusade to bring all the Islamic world under his rule. Heston portrays General Gordon, the British 'go to guy' in all issues Sudanese.
While there are some minor diversions from the actual history of the events portrayed, most of it is bang on. A classic, with a classic performance by one of the greatest actors of his generation. No, not Heston.
