Review of Kelly & Cal (2014) by Tvnewsguido — 03 Jan 2015
It's an odd little film about infatuation, infidelity and postpartum depression.
One can't help but compare this to other teen boy/older woman films ("The Graduate" "My Tutor" "Clément") but "Kelly & Cal" doesn't follow any formula with which I am familiar. It is an interesting look at how the loss of something precious, be it one's youthful self or the use of one's limbs, can cause a period of mourning.
I give high marks for the genuine chemistry between the leads. There are truly funny moments in this film and a smidgen of heartfelt emotion but, on the whole, it's just there.
I was entertained but not overwhelmed.
