Review of Ju-rei: The Uncanny (2004) by Jerico T — 02 Aug 2010
3 - By telling the story backwards, the film won't be able to generate scares the way western horror films do. It does however generate dread very well for the most part. As is traditional with J-horror, the inevitability of the curse dominates the story.
Jurei falls short of similarly themed Ju-on mainly because this one can be really rough around the edges, particularly during many of the ghost scenes. Ju-on tended to handle these very well, without betraying it's low budget.
Still, J-horror buffs should watch and get something from this.
