Review of Jimmy's Hall (2014) by Mayank A — 19 Nov 2014
Ken Loach. Have seen many of his films, mostly touching, brilliant and beautiful to watch. This, based on a true story, despite the slightly empty feeling in the end belongs to that group. One quote kept playing in my head during the film from a totally (ok, relatively) unrelated source which fits in this film and the lives of the people in it, mainly on the part that the church played in all that went on: "Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.
" ? Frank McCourt.
