Review of Jane Got a Gun (2015) by Greg B — 30 Jan 2016
"Jane got a gun" is a Western starring Natalie Portman as a strong willed woman whose husband is being hunted by a group of outlaws called the Bishop boys, led by Ewan McGregor. She and a former love interest vow to protect Jane's home at all costs from the bloodthirsty gang.
Amid this is a love triangle that plays out nicely in this revenge tale. I thought the plot was excessively simplistic, and the flashbacks slow the plot, but overall, Portman saves this role with her strong conviction as an actress.
Her character is a beacon of strength in an era where women didn't have a voice. She transitions nicely from the subdued housewife into a strong, committed lead. This film also had beaucomp entertainment value and is an authentic Western -------------------------------------------------- B.
