Review of It's Kind of a Funny Story (2010) by Beth M — 26 Feb 2014
I was very very surprised at this film, I thought it looked alright and knew it came from the director's of Half Nelson, but I figured it would be a straight forward film that had drama and comedy, and it did, but it was shot amazing.
The use of voiceovers, montages, flashbacks, dream sequences, and animated sequences all make the film so unique. The acting is all very solid, Keir Gilchrist does a great job in the lead role. All the suporting cast is very good and Zach Galifianakis does good in a quirky role that is also serious.
The music in this film is really good and I loved the Under Pressure sequence as well as the Pixies piano cover. Overall a really good quirky comedy that is very serious at times and is shot really well and I think Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are getting better and better as directors and look forward to their next picture.
