Review of It's in the Bag! (1945) by Kevin N — 09 Mar 2009
OK. This isn't a 5 star movie - some of the acting is just plain poor, including Fred Allen's rather inept comic takes - but the script is brilliant, and the times when both come together (the movie theatre sequence springs to mind as a STONE classic) it is pure gold. It is worth watching for the odd character turns by Sidney Toler, Don Ameche, Jack Benny, Jerry Colonna, etc. and also for the lines that you just know Fred Allen wrote. My favorite - "Have you an iron lung in this establishment?" "No" " A FINE hotel!!!!".
Just blip over the poor acting moments, and savor a rare comic talent at work.
