Review of It Had to Be You (2016) by Norafriedman — 11 Nov 2016
Those romantic comedies that give you that special "all-is-right-with-the-world" feelings are precious few. "It had to be you" is just that rom-com, and manages to do so while avoiding all the typical tropes of the perfect womanbot found in most rom-coms.
The protagonist is warm, confused, and totally believable. It's so refreshing to see a female protagonist who is a real person - realizing she's out of toilet paper while she's peeing, trying to figure out what women do when they say they're going to "freshen up" (I've always wondered this myself), and generally being at odds with femininity, all the while being a lovable, if not befuddled, romantic lead.
There were a number of points in this movie when I laughed out loud and could not stop laughing. Perfect for a cozy night at home or going through a romantic rough patch.
