Review of Into the Wild (2007) by Francisca M — 04 Apr 2013
A movie about living life to the fullest through simple living. It's a very moving biographical film about a young man who abandons his life in search of spiritual knowledge and communion with nature.
This is one of few movies that connects personally with me, and always has me saying "wow, his journey is truly amazing". He is admirable, not for a teenage immaturity, but for his desire to get back to nature, leaving what he sees as a materialist society that rewards those who follow the rules of today's post-modern civil system.
Many people wish they could give everything up and get back to nature, but we rationally choose not to; the brilliance of McCandless' story is that he (an educated college graduate who was going to law school) is in fact mature enough and wilful enough to irrationally go down a long hard road in pursuit of spiritual fulfilment by seceding into the wild.
