Review of Into the Night (1988) by Private U — 22 May 2008
Woah. Although the 80s soundtrack stings a bit, this movie hits on just about every level. Lovable characters (even the villains), a helluva crazy plot, romance, and comedy. Goldblum and Pfeiffer are at the top of their game, and Landis's directing is at his best (he also seems to have invited every director+change he knew to make cameos, because they're everywhere).
High points include a badass David Bowie, Richard Farnsworth, an excellent taxi chase, Landis playing a terrorist, and one of the most darkly comic sight gags ever (it involves a dog). Excellent entertainment.
I also recommend the movie "Something Wild" - it as a similar bored-man-meets-mysterious-woman-and-gets-caught-up-in-a-wild-ride plot. Its a bit more serious and grounded in reality, but it's just as great, if not better, and its director (Jonathon Demme) makes a cameo in "Night.
