Review of In the Company of Men (1997) by Kenneth S — 08 Feb 2010
This film sucks, but not in the way you think it sucks. The main character played by Aaron Eckhart sucks the decency and happiness right out of you, like he's a dementor minus the scary cloak and the ability to levitate.
Hand-crafted with excellence by Neil Labute, he directs Eckhart to do the nasty things that most individuals would never dare do publicly. The dialogue is ferocious, acidic and malicious. The performances of the cast show negative emotions that are too real to be fake.
The ending may have the best naturalistic comeuppance in cinema history. Bringing a new kind of sick, twisted and vial to the screen without the use of computer-aided imagery or fake blood, In The Company of Men wins the gold.
