Review of In Darkness (2011) by Greg Z — 26 Feb 2012
Beautiful film about a polish petty theif who hides a family of Jews in the sewer in occupied Poland during WWII. His character arc and relationship with the main Jewish man is really nicely done. The acting was good.
I never tire of films about WWII and all the myriad ways that people were affected or changed. This film gives a face to all the non-Jewish people who did their best to make it easier for the horrorifying injustices done to Jewish people in Poland.
What they might have strengthened is the fact that it was extremely difficult for Polish people to be this brave, given their history of being bandied about from one country or another that tried to take them over.
