Review of Imitation of Life (1934) by Miranda P — 04 Nov 2009
An examination of race and gender that is both a fascinating product of, and surprisingly sensitive and progressive for, its time. True, it indulges in stereotypes and the story is overly simplistic, but it manages to rise above itself with strong direction and winning performances from the lead actors.
