Review of If You Are the One (2008) by Sf C — 11 Jun 2009
You Ge and Qi Shu are fantastic! Yes, the theme is not new, but I like their performance, and the way the story is told: slow paced, subtle, and ... romantic (from a man's perspective, :p ). A love story with a Chinese flavour. The story has some sad elements, but the overall feeling is a humorous one. I like Xiaogang Feng's screenplay. I am not a fan of him as a director. I haven't watched Ji Jie Hao or Ye Yan. But I love Tian Xia Wu Zei ("A World Without Thieves") very much, another movie written and directed by him.
Things I don't like: The title, although one that is unique and easy to remember, does not match the story well. Moreover, although I agree that the pace should be slow, there are some scenes that I think can be deleted or shortened, as they contribute little to the main story and distracted me. The ending could also be improved.
