Review of Idiocracy (2006) by Aristo K — 14 Dec 2013
Possibly my favorite movie ever. Normally I'm not a fan of vulgar humor, but in a film depicting an entire world that has descended into complete vulgarity, there is no choice but to go with that, and Judge does it masterfully.
Idiocracy manages to combine lots of very funny lowball humor with the very serious message that, hey, if we don't change our direction then we're likely to end up where we're obviously heading.
I can see that this film would not appeal to mindless optimists, of whom there seems to be no shortage, hence the negative reviews. If you're into sardonic humor, this is your flick. My only critism of the movie is that I think that we'll have descended to the level depicted in this film by 2050, not 2505 (and it is imaginable that in 2050 all the slick tech stuff that inexplicably still works in the depicted degenerate society could still be working).
