Review of I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story (2015) by Ian G — 02 May 2014
A heartwarming doc focusing on one of the original Muppeteers not named Oz or Henson, Carol Spinney, who was the Elmo of his generation playing not one but two iconic characters on Sesame Street, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.
Takes a slightly different route then the Elmo doc with using a lot of more personal family footage of the Muppeteer with his family and making it just as vibrant as the subject himself when he is in the suit and also show how important Carol is in adding his beliefs into the characters he portrays.
The 70's home movie footage only helps add a nostalgic and happy feel to the proceedings. Extremely well done.
