Review of Hotel Chevalier (2007) by Matt B — 23 Nov 2007
This is a brilliantly crafted prologue to The Darjeeling Limited. Anderson works very well in the short time-frame he uses, giving the viewer a great sense of identification with the characters involved.
Absent are the excesses of the main feature, but it retains all, or more, of the emotional punch. Anderson's always excellent visual style is toned down just enough to accent the short without overwhelming it, as tends to happen in much of his work.
It's just outstanding.
