Review of Hooked on You (2007) by Ken L — 31 Aug 2009
Ten years on, with the handover still fresh in mind, there's a sudden surge of movies commemorating the event. At the time of Law Wing-cheong's Hooked On You post-handover HK certainly seemed to be in desperate need to display it's uniqueness and local values, and Law accomplishes this through adapting a rather sympathetic working-class perspective on things.
Fung Chi Keung might not be the most prolific of the Milkyway team of writers, but his his episodic and almost fragmentary screenplay serves it purpose very well, focusing on details and ordinary life while grander events remain in the background.
