Review of Holy Rollers (2010) by Scott M — 01 Dec 2010
Terrific film based on actual events whereby Hasidic residents from Brooklyn are recruited (sometimes unwittingly) to import Ecstacy from Europe back to NYC for resale and profit.
The always-reliable Jesse Eisenberg is the focus of the story as a strictly religious Hasid on the fast-track to Rabbi when he is derailed by the temptation his neighbor (a great performance by Justin Bartha) who has long since turned his back on his religion and is deeply involved in the illegal drug trade.
Never dull and often suspenseful, this film was just a winner at the local Gotham Awards.
