Review of Hits (2014) by Elena J — 20 Aug 2015
Perhaps I'm the only person who thought this was brilliant satire. It's not meant to be taken entirely seriously, as it is an exaggeration of reality, but it is nevertheless a good comment on it. It does not just 'make fun' of small-town folk, but big-city folk as well. I have heard it described as misanthropic, and maybe it is, but it is all in good fun. More than a comment on modern society and "technology," it is perhaps a comment on the perpetual differences between the "country" and "city" philosophy in America, and the way in which city people will sometimes revere or venerate those who seem disadvantaged until it is obvious that their beliefs do not align whatsoever. A very good parody of American culture.
It reminds me a bit of Todd Solondz, only more hopeful.
