Review of Helvetica (2007) by Jack Y — 28 Jul 2007
Typophiles will love this: some of the graphic and type design industries greats; the original notes from Hoffman and Miedinger held by Hoffmans son in Münchenstein, Switzerland; a journey from the 1950s to the 2000s.
Non-type folks might find talk of x-height and horizontal terminals obscure. Nevertheless, great interviews and that newfangled German humour from my colleague Erik Spiekermann, which even the non-type audience loved.
Interesting to see three of the Wellington typeface designers there: self, Kris Sowersby, David Philpott; typographer Len Cheeseman was among the audience, too, showing just what sort of influence this type family has had.
