Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Tamara S — 02 May 2009
Before "Rings", Peter Jackson made this haunting and ambiguous film, his first masterpiece. Kate Winslet blasted out of the gate with a performance of flighty energy, but Melanie Lynskey's multifaceted turn carries the movie.
The fantasy sequences are beautifully integrated and the harsh reality they cloak is masterfully and painstakingly reconstructed. Deserves to be mentioned as being among PJ's best work, alongside the more mainstream blockbusters.
