Review of Head On (1998) by Drew H — 29 Nov 2007
Very moving and emotionally charged story about a young gay Australian guy's struggle with his sexuality and the traditions of his Greek family. Alex Dimitriades delivers a knockout performance as Ari and is very believable and brave with the film's various gay sex scenes.
Kudos also to him for the full nudity and unapologetic masturbation scene. Lesbian director Ana Kokkinos brilliantly balances the two cultures and internal struggles that Ari goes through and particularly effective is the opening credits sequence featuring old black and white photos.
Not a film that everyone will enjoy but one I found deeply moving.
