Review of Harakiri (1962) by Steph H — 05 Jan 2008
Masaki Kobayashi's tale of samurai squalor, brings more emotion and depth to the time period. Not to mention the unbelievable performance by a younger Tatsuya Nakadai. Kobayashi's treatise on the inadequacies of tradition, as well as the hypocrisy of higher society are center stage here.
Through the perfect use of all cinematic elements, Kobayashi brings us a Samurai period film that is, in fact, timeless. Flawless.
