Review of Harakiri (1962) by Slothbear T — 14 Oct 2007
This is one of the finest pieces of cinema I think I've ever seen, though it does contain one of the most discomforting scenes I've ever witnessed in a movie. The movie is a study in the ancient Samurai ritual of Harakiri- or self-disembowelment if you will- but as a movie it's so much more than that.
Beautifully shot, written, directed and acted, with a moral punch like a sledge-hammer. If you ever get the chance to see this masterpiece- take it. You won't be disappointed...
