Review of Happy, Happy (2010) by Jane G — 13 Aug 2011
This is meant I think to be funny - a relentlessly cheery wife whose husband is closet gay and whose son is possibly a psychopath live in rural Norway. Another couple move in next door having moved to the country to leave the wife's adulterous affair behind them.
She can't have children and they have adopted a mute African boy who is systematically tortured by son of first couple. Wife of first could starts affair with husband of second. Husband of second tries it on with husband of first, without success.
Wife of second tries it on with husband of first, without much success. There is a Scandinavian glee choir trying to sing in American English as a kind of chorus, and three of the four sing in a local choir.
In the dark, and the snow, with no neighbours for miles. I haven't felt this miserable coming-out of a film since Revolutionary Road.
