Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Sam M — 07 Aug 2008
Neither a glorification nor a put down of the titular figure (Timothy Treadwell), Herzog clearly identifies with him despite their conflicting sensibilities. Actually, one of the great things about this picture is how Herzog re-interprets this mass footage shot by an amateur; he doesn't just shape a visually strong picture, he contrasts his own nihilistic view with Treadwell's naivete.
One of the most offbeat and interesting documentaries in years.
