Review of Grey Gardens (1976) by Bomb C — 23 Dec 2007
The Maysles brothers document the lives of mother Edith (Jackie O.'s aunt) and daughter Edie (Jackie O.'s cousin). Although the focus tends to lean on the possible loss of their East Hampton mansion, the ladies' off-beat yet fascinating lives unfold, leading the audience to see beyond the now decaying walls of Grey Gardens.
From the outlandish outfits, to the songs sung, the essence of their lifestyle (which is quite unique) remains visible. The Maysles brother's lens stays honest, paying tribute so such amazing characters.
