Review of Grandma (2015) by Amanda C — 24 Jun 2015
Grandma is a film that is equal parts entertaining and heartwarming. Lily Tomlin is on top of her game as a shit talking grandmother who's trying to help her granddaughter get money for an abortion.
Grandma is also a text book example of how to insert the feminist agenda into a feature without being preachy or angry. For the savvy viewer, references to Simone de Bouvier and Betty Friedan are nice little mentions, for those not in the know, they exist as signposts to further information on the foundations of feminism.
It is a rare film that manages to educate and entertain unequal measure, but Grandma manages it effortlessly.
