Review of Grand Prix (1966) by Benjamin V — 19 Jun 2008
Ok I know you're not meant to hype up a movie too much in the review but I just have to let my fingers go on this one: Intense. I can't believe they got this made. It stands up 40 years later like few modern films.
Does a great job of capturing the sport in that moment in time, so much so you'd say it's half documentary. It's amazing that the events in the script happen for real within a few years of it being shot.
Sure there's mistakes here and there but it's shot in a brilliant way that few films ever were. I have so much more respect for Frankenheimer now. Even if you're not a racer there are few films that are as retro-cool as this.
If you are a racer, this is heaven.
